Vice President Kamala Harris Concedes Defeat to Donald Trump in 2024 Election

Later tonight, Vice President Kamala Harris is set to deliver a significant speech acknowledging her defeat to Donald Trump in the 2024 U.S. presidential election. This moment will distinguish her from today’s winner by showcasing her commitment to upholding the democratic process that has seen the American populace re-elect Trump to the White House, having amassed a confirmed 277 electoral college votes and seemingly winning the popular vote as well.

As the nation woke up to the reality of Trump’s impending return to the presidency, numerous figures from the entertainment industry have begun to voice their sentiments regarding the election results. Throughout her campaign, Harris received endorsements from various prominent figures in the entertainment sector, many of whom have now shared their dismay over the Democratic losses in the presidential race, as well as in the Senate, gubernatorial contests, and likely in the House of Representatives.

Renowned horror author Stephen King took to social media to express his sorrow over the current state of America. In a post on X, he remarked, “There’s a sign you can see in many shops that sell beautiful but fragile items: LOVELY TO LOOK AT, DELIGHTFUL TO HOLD, BUT ONCE YOU BREAK IT, THEN IT’S SOLD.” He poignantly added, “You can say the same about democracy.”

Oscar-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis, a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, shared a heartfelt message on social media about the potential repercussions of the election results on marginalized communities and women. “This signifies a return to a more restrictive, and for some, a draconian era. Many fear their rights will be threatened and denied. Minority groups and young people will experience heightened anxiety. The LGBTQ+ community, particularly gay and trans individuals, will face increased fears. We know many women will struggle to access the reproductive healthcare that they need and deserve. But for all those affected, there will be allies willing to help, myself included.”

In her post, Curtis emphasized the importance of resilience: “What it really means is that we wake up and fight. Fight for women, for our children, and their futures. Fight against tyranny, one day at a time, one struggle at a time, one protest at a time. That’s what it means to be an American. This has always been the essence of American spirit and will continue to be, regardless of the outcomes.” She concluded with a message of compassion: “Be gentle with people today. Be gentle with yourself today. Feel your feelings today, but most importantly… Be an American today.”

On the popular American talk show ‘The View,’ hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, Joy Behar, and Alyssa Farah Griffin shared their reactions to the election results. “He’s the president. I’m still not going to say his name. That’s not going to change,” Goldberg, who has had a long-standing opposition to Trump, expressed. “I’m profoundly disturbed,” Hostin added, reflecting on their past uncertainties in 2016 versus the clarity they now possess. “We know now. We know now he will have almost unfettered power. I worry not for myself or my station in life—I worry about the working class. I worry about my mother, a retired teacher. I worry about our elderly and their social security and Medicare. I worry about the future of my children, especially my daughter, who has fewer rights than I once had.”

Musician Ethel Cain did not hold back her anger upon seeing the election results. “If you voted for Trump, I hope that peace never finds you. Instead, I hope clarity strikes you someday like a clap of lightning, and you are left to live the rest of your life with the knowledge and guilt of what you’ve done and who you are as a person,” she wrote in a note published to X.

Character actor Wendell Pierce, known for his role in ‘The Wire,’ offered a stern warning about the implications of the election. “Elections have consequences. The Supreme Court will be reshaped for a generation. I will never witness a moderate court again in my lifetime. Alito and Thomas will eventually step down, and Trump will appoint 40-year-old partisans to the bench. The damage he is about to wreak upon our institutions in the next two years will be irreparable.”

In a more sarcastic take on the controversy surrounding the 2020 elections, talk show host Andy Cohen quipped, “So the election ISN’T rigged????”
