Good Morning! It’s Thursday

Today, we will explore a significant promotion recently awarded to General Ulysses S. Grant, a figure who passed away 139 years ago. Additionally, we will discuss the details surrounding the 45-year prison sentence handed down to a man whose fentanyl stash at his wife’s daycare tragically resulted in the death of a 22-month-old boy.

Who is buried in Grant’s tomb? A general who has attained the Army’s highest rank.

Ulysses S. Grant, who has not been with us for nearly a century and a half, has finally received the long-deserved promotion that many of his admirers have sought for years. This recognition is a momentous occasion for those who honor his legacy.

“This is the step we were really waiting for,” expressed Frank Scaturro, the president of the Grant Monument Association. “It’s a wonderful acknowledgment of the monumental significance of the singular life and unparalleled public service of one of the supreme commanders of American forces during two pivotal wars of existential importance.”

Scaturro further emphasized Grant’s contributions by stating, “He and George Washington represent the two critical conflicts that the United States had to win: the Civil War and the Revolutionary War.”

Indeed, Scaturro boldly places Grant alongside Washington in terms of historical impact. However, the Army has approached this elevation with a slightly different perspective.

In an official statement, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin III announced Grant’s promotion to the rank of General of the Armies of the United States. He noted that this elevation will grant Grant “the same rank and precedence” as the legendary World War I hero, John J. Pershing, who was designated a General of the Armies in 1919, just a year after the Allied forces and Germany signed the armistice, marking the end of the Great War.
