A Glimpse into Tom Llamas’s Life Beyond the Newsroom
Five nights a week, Tom Llamas serves as the prominent face of election coverage for NBC News. However, on Sundays, he escapes the hustle and bustle of Manhattan and retreats to his home in Westchester County, N.Y., located about 40 minutes north of the NBC studios. Here, he enjoys quality time with his son, engaging in workouts and playing baseball.
“Living in New York City with kids requires a lot of effort to do anything, whether it’s a car ride, an Uber, or a taxi,” shared Mr. Llamas, 45, who relocated with his family to a spacious seven-bedroom home in Purchase in 2022. This move followed five years spent in a more compact three-bedroom apartment in Midtown East. “As our children grew older, the logistics were starting to wear us down.”
The new residence, equipped with a gym, a dedicated gymnastics area, and even a room for recording music, provides a much-needed sanctuary away from the relentless news cycle. In recent months, Mr. Llamas has traveled extensively for work, covering significant events such as:
- Reporting from Paris for the Olympics
- Anchoring from the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in Chicago and Wisconsin
- Covering hurricanes in Florida and New Orleans
“What people endure during a hurricane is far more challenging than my own experiences, but it has still been incredibly taxing on me,” Mr. Llamas reflected, who was born in Miami and recently returned from covering Hurricane Milton in Florida.
Mr. Llamas commutes to NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, opting for either a car ride or the Metro-North train. He shares his home with his wife, Jennifer Llamas, 43, and their three children: Malena, 11, Juju, 8, and Tomas, 7. Family time is a cherished priority for them, especially during breakfast, where Mr. Llamas noted, “Juju is actually quite talented in the kitchen!”
In this vibrant blend of family life and a demanding career, Tom Llamas continues to navigate the complexities of being a father and a leading journalist, carving out moments of joy and connection amidst the chaos.
