Re “Harris’s Loss Could Haunt Biden’s Legacy as Critics Weigh His Choices” (news article, Nov. 8): I resonate with many Democrats who characterize President Biden as “a one-term president who set his party on a path to failure in 2024.” Four years ago, Mr. Biden, then 77, made a commitment to serve as a “bridge” to a new generation of Democratic leaders. Unfortunately, he has not fulfilled that promise.
Despite his evident challenges, Mr. Biden only exited the race for a second term after his underwhelming debate performance against Donald Trump. By delaying his decision to step aside, he denied Democratic voters and potential candidates the opportunity for a vigorous primary process, one that could have yielded a more robust and battle-hardened nominee.
Mr. Trump and his Republican allies in Congress have voiced their intentions to dismantle many of Mr. Biden’s significant legislative achievements. Should they succeed, Mr. Biden’s legacy may be tarnished as that of a president who prioritized his own ego over the welfare of his party and the nation, ultimately facilitating the unprecedented election of a convicted criminal as president of the United States. In my view, Joe Biden stands as the primary reason Donald Trump triumphed over Kamala Harris.

To the Editor:
I do not identify as a supporter of Donald Trump. While I do not harbor hatred towards him, I also did not cast my vote in his favor. I hold a deep respect for the 73 million Americans who chose to support him; their voting decision is a fundamental right that should be acknowledged. The integrity of our country is not compromised because of their choices, nor has it lost its moral compass.
