New Skyscraper 520 Fifth Avenue to Transform Midtown NYC Skyline

New Skyscraper Set to Transform Midtown’s Skyline

A groundbreaking mixed-use skyscraper is poised to redefine the iconic New York City skyline in Midtown, featuring an innovative design characterized by its striking arches and lush terraces. The impressive structure, designated as 520 Fifth Avenue, is designed to seamlessly blend luxury living with modern workspace and social engagement.

Topping out this week, the ambitious tower reaches a height of 1,002 feet, making it the second tallest building on Fifth Avenue, trailing only the legendary Empire State Building. Furthermore, it proudly stands as the tallest residential building along this famous avenue. Anticipated completion is set for 2026, with phased occupancy expected to commence as early as next year.

Developed by Rabina, a prominent Manhattan-based real estate firm, 520 Fifth Avenue is a collaborative masterpiece crafted in partnership with Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF), an esteemed architecture firm renowned for its portfolio of supertall structures, including the illustrious One Vanderbilt in Midtown and the soaring Lotte World Tower in Seoul. Construction is being expertly managed by Suffolk, while the interior design is overseen by Vicky Charles, a former Soho House designer known for her high-profile clientele, including luminaries such as George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, and Harry Styles.

Located at the bustling intersection of 43rd Street and Fifth Avenue, this slender architectural marvel occupies a quarter-acre site and is distinguished by its elegant arches and multi-level setbacks, paying homage to the classic architectural styles of New York City. The lower levels feature arches crafted from glazed terra-cotta, transitioning to painted aluminum adorned with bronze extrusions as one ascends the building. This thoughtful design resonates harmoniously with the nearby historical landmarks, including the majestic Grand Central Terminal, the Fred F. French building, and the distinguished Century Association next door, according to James von Klemperer, the president and design principal at KPF.
