Jimmy Kimmel’s Affection for Costco
Jimmy Kimmel insists that he has never once solicited his team for publicity — with one notable exception: his earnest desire to grace the cover of Costco Connection. The beloved host and comedian passionately pleaded with his publicist for the opportunity, saying, “His first question was, ‘Why?’” To which Kimmel replied, “Because I absolutely love Costco.”
Kimmel’s devotion to Costco runs deep. He fondly recalls the days when the warehouse giant merged with Price Club, another wholesaler, back in 1993. His visits to the store are not motivated by the allure of free samples or unbeatable deals; rather, he describes his trips as a form of therapy. “I go there for relaxation,” he explained, sharing the profound joy he feels when he returns home with a staggering 20 pounds of ground beef. “I don’t like to run out of things,” he added, emphasizing his appreciation for well-stocked supplies.
His publicist was taken aback by this unusual request, as were the executives at Costco. “They were very confused because typically, they’ll have Famous Amos on the cover of the magazine,” Kimmel noted with a chuckle. Despite being a late-night television icon since 2003 and having hosted the Oscars four times, Kimmel maintains that no career achievement has ever matched the thrill of appearing on the cover of Costco Connection in December 2009.
