The Costco Connection: A Dream Come True for Jimmy Kimmel
Jimmy Kimmel, the beloved late-night host, insists that he has never once requested his team to secure him any press coverage — with one amusing exception. That exception? His heartfelt plea to be featured on the cover of Costco Connection, the magazine dedicated to the wholesale giant.
In a moment of genuine enthusiasm, Kimmel implored his publicist to help him land a feature. When his publicist asked, “Why?” Kimmel’s answer was simple yet passionate: “Because I love Costco.”
His admiration for Costco runs deep. Kimmel recalls with nostalgia the time when the company merged with Price Club, another wholesale retailer, back in 1993. His trips to Costco are not motivated by the allure of free samples or unbeatable deals; instead, he visits the store for a much more personal reason.
“I go there for relaxation,” Kimmel shared, reflecting on the immense joy he feels when he returns home with a whopping 20 pounds of ground beef. He added, “I don’t like to run out of things.”
Unsurprisingly, Kimmel’s publicist was left bewildered by this unconventional request, as were the executives at Costco. Kimmel recalled, “They were very confused because typically, they’ll have Famous Amos on the cover of the magazine.”
Since 2003, Kimmel has been at the helm of his own late-night show, making him a staple in the world of late-night television. He has also had the honor of hosting the Oscars four times and has been profiled by prominent magazines such as GQ and Esquire. Yet, despite all these accolades and experiences, Kimmel maintains that nothing compares to the thrill of being featured on the cover of Costco Connection in December 2009.
