Israel Celebrates Trump’s Election Victory: A New Era for U.S.-Israel Relations

Israel’s Reaction to Trump’s Victory

On Wednesday morning, Israel’s right-wing government erupted in celebration, as if the nation itself had emerged victorious in the American election. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took to social media to extend his congratulations to Donald J. Trump and his wife, Melania, declaring, “Dear Donald and Melania Trump, Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback!”

Netanyahu expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Your historic return to the White House marks a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the enduring alliance between Israel and the United States. This is a monumental victory!” He concluded his message with a warm sign-off, “In true friendship, yours, Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu.”

Adding to the jubilant atmosphere, Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel’s ultranationalist minister of national security, couldn’t contain his excitement. He shared a jubilant message on social media, simply stating “Yesssss!” accompanied by emojis of a flexed bicep and the flags of both Israel and the United States, even before the final polls had closed in Alaska.

The sentiment among Jewish Israelis is overwhelmingly in favor of Trump, with a significant majority believing he is a more favorable option for Israel’s interests compared to Vice President Kamala Harris. This perception stems from the belief that Trump will adopt a more lenient stance towards Israel than the current Biden administration. While the Biden administration has offered substantial support for Israel’s military operations in Gaza over the past year, it has also voiced concerns regarding the humanitarian implications, including the alarming civilian death toll.

As Netanyahu looks ahead, he may feel increasingly emboldened by the prospect of a more supportive U.S. president. This newfound confidence could influence his approach as he continues to advocate for total victory in Israel’s ongoing conflicts, particularly in his contentious relationship with Iran.
