FEMA Employee Fired for Political Bias During Hurricane Relief Efforts

FEMA Employee Dismissed Over Controversial Conduct Post-Hurricane Milton

An employee with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been terminated following allegations that they instructed relief workers in Florida to bypass homes displaying support for Donald J. Trump. This incident occurred in the wake of Hurricane Milton, which struck the state last month as a Category 3 hurricane.

The agency confirmed that the employee advised their survivor assistance team to avoid houses marked with yard signs in favor of Mr. Trump during critical rescue operations after the storm’s devastation. In response to these reports, FEMA has initiated an investigation but expressed that they believe this was likely an isolated incident.

Deanne Criswell, FEMA’s administrator, issued a statement expressing her disapproval of the employee’s actions, labeling them as “reprehensible.” She emphasized that such behavior directly contradicts FEMA’s foundational values and commitment to aiding individuals regardless of their political beliefs.

Ms. Criswell further stated that the agency has escalated the matter to its internal counsel’s office and assured the public that she is committed to preventing similar occurrences in the future. “I want to be unequivocal with all my employees and the American public: this kind of conduct will not be tolerated at FEMA, and we will ensure accountability for any breaches of our standards of conduct,” she declared.
