Esther Horvath’s Arctic Photography Exhibition: Night Stars of the Arctic

Esther Horvath’s Arctic Photography Exhibition

Esther Horvath’s captivating photographs are at the heart of a new exhibition that highlights the profound impact of climate change, specifically in a research village recognized as the epicenter of global warming. Through her lens, Horvath emphasizes that climate change is not an instantaneous event; rather, it is a gradual process that unfolds over time. The meticulous research required to observe its effects demands patience and dedication, and her photography serves as a powerful testament to this ongoing journey.

Since the 1990s, there has been a significant increase in the participation of women in climate research. Horvath remarks, “You can be a fragile woman and still love the cold and embark on challenging journeys like this.” She aims to inspire the younger generation through her evocative images, encouraging them to engage with the world of science and exploration.

Focusing on the individuals behind the scientific endeavors, Horvathā€™s work brings to light the human stories intertwined with the critical research on climate change. The Norwegian climate research village of Ny-ƅlesund, the focal point of this exhibition, was established in 1963 and has been the site of continuous research every single day since its inception.

Since 2015, Horvath has documented 25 Arctic exploration expeditions, showcasing the resilience and determination of those dedicated to understanding and combating climate change. Her extraordinary work has earned her prestigious accolades, including the World Press Photo First Prize and the National Geographic Wayfinder Award.

The photo exhibition titled “Night Stars of the Arctic” will be on display at the Capa Center in Budapest from 25 October until 31 January. This exhibition promises to be a poignant reminder of the urgency of climate action and the beauty of the Arctic landscape.
