Elevated Walkway Opens at Trevi Fountain for Unique Viewing Experience

New Viewing Experience at the Trevi Fountain

Visitors to Rome will now have the chance to admire the iconic Trevi Fountain from a newly installed elevated walkway, which has been implemented during ongoing maintenance work. This initiative was inaugurated by Rome’s Mayor, Roberto Gualtieri, who expressed that the walkway will offer tourists an intimate view of the monument, creating a “unique experience” that is free from the usual overcrowding.

The walkway, which stretches over the fountain’s basin, can accommodate approximately 130 visitors at any given time. However, it is important to note that tourists will not be permitted to toss coins into the fountain during this period, as it has been drained for maintenance. Those who attempt to throw coins may face a 50-euro fine, as warned by the mayor.

According to local tradition, tossing a coin into the grand Baroque fountain is believed to guarantee a return visit to the Eternal City. In a thoughtful gesture, Gualtieri mentioned that a small pool has been set up adjacent to the walkway to collect any coins that may be tossed. These coins will be donated to Caritas, a charity organization dedicated to providing meals for those in need.

The elevated walkway will be in place until the maintenance work is completed, which is expected to occur by the end of the year. In addition, city officials are developing a plan to regulate access to the area surrounding the fountain. Under this proposed plan, visitors will be required to book their visits online and pay a nominal fee of two euros. Once inside, guests will have a time limit of 30 minutes to fully enjoy the stunning view of the fountain.
