Delicious Discoveries at the Grocery Store
There are certain foods that simply capture my attention as I stroll through the grocery aisles, even if they aren’t on my shopping list. One such item is paneer, the delightful firm, fresh Indian cheese. Just last week, I couldn’t resist picking it up, instantly knowing it would star in a comforting dish of mattar paneer, featuring a creamy, spiced tomato sauce infused with ginger and garlic.
Our version of this beloved recipe on The New York Times Cooking is designed for streamlined preparation, perfect for those busy weeknights when you’re short on time. (I suspect Iām not alone in facing a packed schedule these days!) Below, you’ll find the recipe along with four additional dish suggestions for the week that I hope will inspire you, bring you joy, or simply make your meal planning a bit easier.

1. Mattar Paneer (Peas and Paneer in Spiced Tomato Gravy)
I canāt shake the memory of a particularly vivid description from Emerson, age 6, which featured in a special section on recipes that kids adore: āJust the flavors are like dancing ā¦ like theyāre dancing on your tongue and ā¦ really just like delicious.ā Zainab Shahās interpretation of this classic dish certainly lives up to that description. If paneer isn’t readily available, you can easily substitute firm tofu to create a vegan version of this delightful meal.
