Dame Shirley Bassey, the iconic Welsh singer renowned for her powerful voice and unforgettable performances, has made headlines once again with her extraordinary jewellery collection. Recently, an auction in Paris showcased some of her “most meaningful” jewels, culminating in a staggering total of €2.2 million, setting a new world record.
Best known for her unforgettable theme song for the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever, Bassey’s love affair with jewellery began long before her illustrious singing career took flight. Reflecting on her passion, she shared, “I fell in love with jewellery when I first discovered natural pearls as an up-and-coming singer. I bought myself my first string of pearls – the first piece of jewellery I’d ever owned. However, I quickly graduated to my lifelong passion for diamonds, which preceded the recording of Diamonds Are Forever.”
She added, “In fact, I accepted to sing the song because it resonated with me and mirrored my feelings about diamonds, both then and now.”
