Chris Wallace Leaves CNN to Pursue Independent Streaming and Podcasting Opportunities

Chris Wallace Announces Departure from CNN to Pursue Independent Content Creation

Chris Wallace, a seasoned television anchor known for his incisive interviewing style and journalistic integrity, has made headlines once again. After three impactful years at CNN, the 77-year-old veteran broadcaster announced on Monday that he is stepping down from his role at the network to explore opportunities in the realms of streaming and podcasting.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily Beast, Mr. Wallace expressed his excitement about venturing into independent content creation, stating, “the action seems to be” in these emerging platforms. While he has not yet determined the specific format or subject matter of his future projects, he has made it clear that his illustrious career in traditional broadcasting has come to a close.

Mr. Wallace emphasized that his decision to leave CNN, following the completion of his three-year contract, was not motivated by dissatisfaction. “I have nothing but positive things to say. CNN was very good to me,” he remarked, highlighting the supportive environment he experienced during his tenure.

As one of CNN’s most recognizable personalities, Mr. Wallace joined the network in 2022, where he served as an on-screen commentator and hosted the weekly talk show “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” His impressive reporting skills were also on display as he anchored the network’s coverage of the recent U.S. presidential election.

Before his time at CNN, Mr. Wallace was a prominent figure at Fox News for 18 years, where he notably hosted “Fox News Sunday.” His tenure at the conservative network was marked by significant moments, including his outspoken stance against former President Trump’s “direct, sustained assault on freedom of the press” in 2020. Additionally, he gained widespread attention for moderating a highly contentious presidential debate between President Trump and Joe Biden.

Initially, Mr. Wallace joined CNN with the intention of contributing to the now-defunct CNN+ service, which tragically collapsed just weeks after its highly publicized launch.

CNN’s chief executive, Mark Thompson, acknowledged Mr. Wallace’s departure in a statement released by the network, thanking him for his contributions. As of now, a representative for Mr. Wallace has not yet responded to requests for further comments regarding his future endeavors.
