Bomb Attack on Turkish Aerospace Industries Headquarters in Ankara
A devastating bomb attack occurred on Wednesday targeting the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) located in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, the capital of Turkey. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding security and safety in the region.
An employee from TAI, who requested anonymity when speaking to Euronews, described the tense situation during the attack. “We were instructed to remain inside the compound while the incident unfolded,” the employee recounted. “It was communicated to us that this was an act of terrorism, and we were advised not to leave our positions.” The employee further noted that a fierce exchange of gunfire took place between security forces and the attackers, specifically near the entrance gate of the compound.
In response to the attack, security forces and medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and provide assistance. Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya also took to social media to address the incident, expressing his condolences: “Unfortunately, we have casualties following the attack … I wish a speedy recovery to those wounded,” he tweeted.
Founded in 1984, TAI has established itself as a prominent player in the aerospace sector of Turkey. The company is renowned for its expertise in the manufacture, integration, design, development, modernization, and life cycle support of integrated aerospace systems. TAI plays a crucial role in advancing Turkey’s aerospace and defense capabilities.
Among its notable projects, TAI is currently developing the Hürjet, a single-engine supersonic advanced jet trainer and light combat aircraft, named in honor of the late Turkish aviation pioneer, Vecihi HürkuÅŸ. Although still in the development phase, the first prototype of this innovative warplane successfully took to the skies in April of last year, showcasing Turkey’s growing ambitions in the aerospace industry.
