Allegations of a Foiled Assassination Plot Against Donald Trump
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan revealed on Friday that Iranian operatives had allegedly discussed a sinister plan to assassinate Donald J. Trump prior to his recent bid for re-election as president. According to court documents, one of the plotters claimed that he was tasked with executing this plan by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran.
In a criminal complaint filed in federal court in Manhattan, an Iranian operative stated that he was directed in September to concentrate solely on the surveillance and eventual assassination of Mr. Trump, setting aside other activities he was involved in for the Revolutionary Guards. The operative reportedly conveyed to a senior IRGC official that executing such a plot would demand a “huge” financial investment. The official’s response was telling: “We have already spent a lot of money,” he stated, emphasizing that “money’s not an issue.”
The newly unsealed complaint further details that authorities had also intervened in another plot aimed at assassinating Masih Alinejad, a prominent human-rights activist residing in Brooklyn, who has been a vocal critic of Iran’s oppressive policies toward women.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
